Show Time Distrations

Just how cute is this little jacket? While slaving away over a hot knitting machine, yesterday, my friend Rose appeared, after much travel, including her native South Africa, bearing gifts.  Her grandmother had passed away and among her things were knitting patterns from the ’40’s (I couldn’t find a date) and this is from the Vogue Knitting Book, Number 41.
I just can’t pass up old patterns and Rose knows this even though she is a knitter herself.  I’ll treasure these. There is some interensting information and some rather nice patterns.   Back in the day, and I remember from my mother’s knitting, garments were made more from very fine wool, creating beautiful suits, baby clothes and even underwear…. I love the underwhere as some pieces would make good tops by today’s fashion standards.

The other thing that I loved was this ad for the ‘Mininitter’ Home Hand-knitting Machine. I wonder if anyone has one anywhere. I don’t see a carriage in the photograph but it seems to do lovely lace.

Well, now back to the hot knitting machine (a more recent vintage!)

OOAK show in three weeks then
Originals in Ottawa in mid April…whew!

  2. Wow! I have just received a Mininitter (Lanofix) via courier. Very unusual machine. It has regular machine latch hooks set in the bar and 2 slide handles.
