Well, I did weave a tangled web the other day, frustrating!!! While knitting a black jacket for a client I noticed the knit was looser and found that the Cannele Mercerised cotton I was using had ‘gone thin’. I’ve had it happen before, and what happens is …. a tiny knot and the next length of yarn on the cone is finer than the proper gauge and the knitting is looser. It’s rather like suddenly knitting in one tension then upping your stitch size by two sizes, all that’s happened is the yarn is thinner.
Here you see you see all the yarn I had to pull off the cone to come to another tiny knot and the following yarn going back to the proper gauge I paid for!!! The other cone is what I pulled of the shelf to match it to as I pulled.
I still have that pile of tangles even though the garment has been long since sent off to the client…… maybe I’ll stuff a pillow or cut it up and put it out for the birds to use for nests!
Camp out where you can for craft shows. Fanfayr was this past weekend in Kingston and I had two lovely friends stay over at our house for the show. We have a spare room and my friend Jannis of Olio Studio was tickled that we finally had a real bed in it (thanks Ikea) rather than the futon bed on the floor we’ve had for years. Another friend Margi Laurin of Altered Books stayed with us too! In the past I’ve put her in the studio on a roll away bed (thanks again Ikea) but I just couldn’t face moving all my mess around so I put her in the ‘nook’. Our house came with a wide shelf with windows and high enough to stand up in, in our upstairs hallway. It’s over the ceiling of our dining room wich is quite high. It’s carpeted and I used to sometimes sit and read there, it’s been storage and where I put my geraniums in the Winter as it faces West. I hung curtains in the three windows and a curtain along he outside so you are completely private and can stand up to dress!! I rolled out the roll away matress and some sleeping bags and stowed Margi on the ‘shelf’ among the books! She survived and thought it was like a couchette on a train! I recently put the 1o year old daughter of friends there and she was pleased as punch to have her own ‘room’.
